If you have a group of really interesting people, you have to have two rules in order to have a productive discussion:

  1. If a very smart person is saying something obvious, it should be assumed to be saying something subtle until proven otherwise.

  2. Intelligent person who is saying something that is wrong, it should be assumed to be saying something counterintuitive until proven otherwise.
